Young Aviator

Year: 1947

Material: Bronze

Size: 14½ inches high

This sculpture was a tribute to LI’s brother-in-law Richard C. Curtis, whose plane was shot down in World War II. The portrait probably preceded the larger memorial in a rondel in plaster inscribed December 7, 1941 – August 14, 1945 owned by St. Mark’s School, Southborough, MA. Bronzes are at Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven; Portland, ME, Museum of Art. Photo by Frank Parman.
